NOI Winter Camp 2022 Successfully Held at No. 2 High School of ECNU

The 39th National Olympiad in Informatics Winter Camp (NOI Winter Camp 2022) hosted by China Computer Federation (CCF) and organized by No. 2 High School of East China Normal University was successfully held from January 22 to 29, 2022.

On the afternoon of January 22, the opening ceremony of the Winter Camp was held in the Concert Hall of No. 2 High School of East China Normal University. Du Zide, Chairman of NOI and Advisor to the President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dai Liyi, Vice President of East China Normal University, Wang Hong, Chairman of NOI Scientific Commission, Lu Xiaoming, Director of Shanghai Extracurricular Education Association, Wu Shenguang, Special Commissioner of NOI in Shanghai, Li Zhicong, President of No. 2 High School of ECNU, and Yuan Jun, Party Secretary of No. 2 High School of ECNU were present in person at the opening ceremony or attended the opening ceremony online. Camp members from all over the country also watched the live broadcast of the opening ceremony.

Li Zhicong, President of No. 2 High School of East China Normal University extended his congratulations to the opening of the Winter Camp on behalf of the organizer and expressed thanks to CCF and leaders of all parties for their support and trust. He said that No. 2 High School of ECNU had a long association with NOI, and it was a great honor for the school to organize the event. The school would try its best to provide high-quality service and hoped that all camp members would gain knowledge and make good friends with each other throughout the event.

Du Zide, Chairman of NOI said in his remarks that considering the pandemic, this year’s winter camp was held online, and online classrooms could integrate national and even global resources by technical means to build a larger platform for camp members where they could learn and communicate. He hoped that everyone would remain true to their original aspiration for Informatics, be practical and ambitious and apply what they learned to the development of the country and society.

Li Jin, an outstanding alumnus of No. 2 High School of ECNU and former senior partner of Microsoft Research in the United States, who returned to China and now serves as Director of the Artificial Intelligence R&D Center of Research Institute of Tsinghua University in Shenzhen was specially invited to extend congratulations to the opening of the winter camp through video.

In 1984, Comrade Deng Xiaoping touched Li Jin’s head and said, “The popularization of computer science should begin with children.” He was profoundly influenced from the moment. Li Jin shared his learning and growing experiences with all members, introduced about the development and application prospects of AI technology in details, and encouraged excellent Informatics contest players to take a broader road in Informatics research and promote human progress and social prosperity.

Dai Liyi, Vice President of East China Normal University extended his congratulations to the return of NOI Winter Camp to Shanghai after 19 years and expressed gratitude to CCF. He said, “No. 2 High School of ECNU had been adhering to the mission of cultivating top-notch innovative talents with equal stress on integrity and ability for a long term and the school had achieved rich experience and fruitful achievements. After long-term practice, a set of well-developed training and selection mechanism has been established for NOI events, playing a solid foundation for cooperation between both parties. No. 2 High School of East China Normal University is confident in and capable of organizing the event, and East China Normal University will offer full support.”

After the counting down message on the large screen, Vice President Dai Liyi announced the official opening of the 39th National Olympiad in Informatics Winter Camp!

A total of 1,108 players and teachers from 26 provinces, cities and autonomous regions around the country gathered for the winter camp. The winter camp followed the traditions of opening two parallel sessions, namely the first class and the second class, with 14 online classes given by 15 lecturers. In the first class, a galaxy of talented lecturers gave lessons, 5 of whom were from North America and Europe, and the number of overseas lecturers reached top.

In the second class, 6 gold medal coaches in Informatics gave special lectures on the difficulties and teaching methods related to network flow and data structure involved in NOI competition syllabus.

On January 27, student members of the camp had an online test. A total of 101 members won the gold medal, 205 members the silver medal and 340 members the bronze medal.

During the Winter Camp, the 5th “CCF NOI Computer Programming Fragment Teaching Skills” competition was held, which attracted 16 Informatics teachers from around the country to attend the online competition, and finally 2 first prize winners, 4 second prize winners and 5 third prize winners were selected.

On January 28, the scheduled agenda was fully done, which brought a successful close to NOI Winter Camp 2022. Du Zide, Chairman of NOI and Advisor to the President at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Zhou Aoying, Vice President of East China Normal University, Wang Hong, Chairman of NOI Scientific Commission attended the online closing ceremony and delivered speeches.

In his remarks, Vice President Zhou Aoying extended congratulations on the success of NOI Winter Camp 2022. He pointed out, “We are living in an unprecedented time. The Internet, big data, AI and blockchain are profoundly affecting and changing our world, and informatization will help the Chinese nation to have unprecedented development opportunities.” He encouraged young students to shoulder the heavy responsibility, hold the pioneering spirit, strive to develop into leading talents in Informatics in the future, and make contributions to the development of Informatics and rejuvenation of the nation based on their talents and strength.
